Chanel's First Dedicated Men's Watch

In a surprise, the French fashion house just announced their first ever watch for men, appropriately called "The Monsieur". In another surprise, the watch is a pretty impressive piece of machinery — this is no fashion watch made by another company with Chanel's name slapped on. The new model was revealed at Baselworld, the world's largest watch industry fair held in Basel, Switzerland, in March. It's the first Chanel watch to be entirely Swiss-made. It will be crafted at the company's factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The watch also houses the company's first in-house movement —made and developed entirely by Chanel — called the Calibre 1. The watch contains an atypical design, with two main complications: a jumping hour and a retrograde minute. The jumping hour is the box below the dials that displays the hour as a numeral, which many might mistake as the date. It changes suddenly when the hour changes. Chanel told The New York Times it chose this complication to mimic the importance of other numbers in the company's history, like the famous No. 5 perfume. The retrograde minute refers to the half circle near the top of the watch, which ticks to the right as the minutes pass by. When the hour changes, the hand sweeps to the left again to restart the 60-minute cycle. chanel watch These unique complications took five years for Chanel to develop, enlisting help from eight different watchmakers and the expertise of Swiss watchmaking powerhouse Romain Gauthier, which Chanel privately acquired a stake, according to the Times. The run will be limited to 150 white gold units retailing for $36,000 and 150 beige gold units retailing for $34,500. They'll both be available in June. For example, the Mademoiselle Prive Watch was undeniable gorgeous, but was retailing for around $95000 USD. The Monsieur Watch by Chanel is not only stunning but surprisingly it’s also an impressive machinery. More over, it’s the first Chanel watch to be entirely Swiss made, to be exact, the factory is located at La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. About the features, the watch includes an atypical design with a jumping hour and a retrograde minute. The jumping hour is the squared box below the dails, which can be mistaken as date. The retrograde minute is the half circle close to the top of the watch. There will only be limited of this watch available – 150 pieces in white gold and pricing at $36000 USD, and 150 beige gold and priced at $345000 USD. The Monsieur de Chanel is Chanel's first dedicated men's watch and certainly first with complication, and what makes that even more important is that it was designed and built completely in-house. And what makes that even more special is that the watch looks fantastic on both the front and the back, and wears like a dream. So what is it? Obviously this is a jumping hour watch, with a pronounced hour display at 6 o'clock. The font used here was indeed designed for this watch – just as the font seen on the Slim d'Hermes was designed for that watch(sidebar: is designing a new font for every new watch now a thing? bc if so, things just got intense).
Directly above the hour at 6 o'clock, you have a lovely running seconds, and above that, you have a retrograde minute display. What is interesting about this retrograde compared to almost all others is that it A) jumps more than 180°, and B) can actually be set going backwards. Both of these are small things, but still show the technical approach that was taken to this watch. Now about that – the Monsieur de Chanel was designed and manufactured completely in-house. Think about that. This jumping hour was made by your wife/girlfriend/sister/SO's favorite, favorite fashion house. It took them five years, and they've gone ahead and brought in some of the best and brightest to make this happen, but it shows how committed they are to fine watchmaking. Caliber 1 from Chanel
Look at that thing. And lest we forget, this bad boy says "Chanel" on the other side. The entirity of Caliber 1, as it's being called, is black anthracite, and the look is downright mean. We have a beautiful central, circular bridge and star-shaped balance wheel. What is interesting to note, and something I had never heard until today, is that Chanel became an investor in high-end independent watchmaker and protegé of no one short of Philippe Dufour, Mr. Romain Gauthier in 2011, and some of the wheels you see here were in fact produced by him, though to Chanel's specifications. The rear of this watch is simply stunning, and frankly looks and feels well above its weight class. Here is the official pic:
What else do you need to know about the Monsieur de Chanel? It has a three-day power reserve from one barrel. It wears wonderfully at 40 mm wide by 10 mm thick, and it will be a limited edition of 300 pieces, 150 in both white gold and beige gold, at $36,000 and $34,500 respectively. Apple has once again collaborated with luxury brand Hermès for the Apple Watch 2 Series. New band styles and colors are introduced this season which are based on Hermès’ iconic watches – Clipper, Cape Cod and Espace. The Double Buckle Cuff will be available in Swift and Epsom calfskin leathers, and comes in three colors, Étoupe, Bleu Agate and Rose Jaipur. The Single Tour Deployment Buckle will come in Fauve Barenia Leather which includes a hidden deployment buckle and opens with a click of two side buttons. The classic Double Tour and Single Tour bands are still part of the collection with new colors for Fall including Anemone. Breitling and Bentley create the spectacular B06 Midnight Carbon watch

Breitling and Bentley have partnered in several former instances to bring out watches that aspecial tributes, specially built for sports, and even pocket watches. Both brands have again come together for a sequel to the inspiring B05 Unitime timepiece. The all-new Breitling for Bentley B06 Midnight Carbon collection enters with an exclusive 30-second chronograph system and Manufacture Breitling Caliber B06. The watch is inspired by the car, through and through. Hints of the cars design are found on the satin-brushed steel case as well as the bezel.

The numerals on the watch are inscribed in red and white, while the dark blue dial looks subtly domineering. It is available with a rubber or crocodile strap. The transparent caseback reminisces the wheel rim of a Bentley car. It is waterproof up to depths of 100 meters.

The 49mm steel case houses a 70-hour power reserve. The central hand of the 30-second chronograph performs a full sweep of the dial within its stipulated time frame and assures accuracy to 1/8th of a second. The dial sports the variable tachymeter on a circular side rule, which measures the average speed basis the time elapse, distance covered or the speed attained.

Louis Vuitton’s new Escale Spin Time watch will be an object of curiosity to watch collectors thanks to the way it combines two innovative concepts to form an artistic new timepiece. The Escale Spin Time features the brand’s spin time complication encased in the distinctive Escale watch case. The dial features spinning cubes at the indices. Two faces of each cube feature have been hand painted with colorful miniature nautical flags, while the remaining two faces feature numerals for 12 and 24-hour timekeeping). Every hour, one of the cubes spins to reveal the hour of the day while a white hand indicates the minutes. Effectively, the dial of the watch changes with every passing hour, revealing the different flags.
