“So few people truly understand what I do,” sighs Catherine B whilst exhaling yet another cigarette. “This is not a consignment store. This is something different”.
That ‘something different’ is an Aladdin’s treasure cave packed with collectable Chanel and Hermes pieces, on which Catherine is an expert. She can tell a real piece from pirated one more so than many retail directors in the fashion houses themselves. “There are many things to watch for,” she says. “And some fakes today are good…very good. But I know. I just know”.
This savvy collector stocks the most elusive bags, jackets, scarves and shoes from the 30’s to the 90’s, but not beyond. She’s not interested in being a depot for the unwanted bags of fickle rich girls; instead, she sees her shop as half museum, half retail store. “Some people can’t understand why I am charging more for a 2.55 bag than the listed price in a Chanel boutique”, she continues. “But it is because the 2.55 I am carrying is a one-of-a-kind piece designed by Mademoiselle Chanel herself, that cannot be found anywhere else in the world!”
Indeed, some of her stock is so rare, it isn’t even for sale. Take her Chanel bicycle, for instance. One of about a hundred left on the planet, it features two sidesaddle ‘handbags’ and the signature Chanel quilting not only on the bags, but on the seat as well. She also owns the original Birkin bag from Hermes. It boasts the initials JB and is numbered 0—it being the first. It also features a strap created at Ms Birkin’s request: “She wanted to be able to put it on her shoulder while she looked for things inside the bag,” explains Catherine.
Her amicable husband assures me that there are many more treasures cached around the store. “She will only show them to people who are truly interested”, he tells me. But when Catherine finds those people who share her enthusiasm and love for vintage Chanel and Hermes, it makes her day–even if there’s no sale.
Catherine explains she would love to share her enthusiasm for these collectable designer pieces in a modern venue, like Harrods Department store, because she believes the English have a better appreciation for all things vintage than the French, who are more likely to use accessories that were passed down through the generations rather than buying vintage pieces themselves. ‘It’s all about heritage,’ she says.

Retro!! The fever is on and we are so very excited to be celebrating anniversary after anniversary this year. From Louis Vuitton and Chanel toCoach, it appears that the retro bags are in and they are here to stay a small while, limited editions that might be extraordinarily hard to find afterwards. If you are an eBay reseller, you might want to get your hands on one of the Coach vintage bags for now as it will most probably be raking in the cash afterwards. Anniversaries are often the best times to find the best in bags, particularly since there is no way you will ever outgrow them. Young or old, handbags will always hold some sort of place in your lives.
For their 75th anniversary, Coach has put out an interesting line-up of vintage products the original bags from the Seventies and Eighties brought back to the forefront so you may enjoy what your parents had back in the day. With both decades so hot off the press right now, huge inspirations on the fashion runways, it only makes sense to have celebratory collections made up at least partly of the more vintage looks from those days.
Each of the bags has been sourced from around the United States and restored artfully to represent the brand’s original hopes for it, each one as individual as the next. There is even a part of the collection that has adorable Snoopy fabric patches on it, something that is only available at the Paris concept store named Colette, alongside the new flagship store for the brand on Rue Saint Honore.
What makes it so special is the sheer number of vintage handbags available! There are 35 different styles, including the Penny, Stewardess and the classic Duffle bag. The vintage global launch of the project is expected to occur on Feb. 1, 2016, with an additional 75 bags going on sale as well. As if that was not enough to drool about we have the 1941 runway show’s collection for spring available exclusively at Colette as well, something that will certainly be pulling in the fashion tourists as they clamour they get their hands on pieces that are as old as the company itself, first shown on the New York Fashion Week stage September of 1940.
2016 marks the 75th anniversary of Coach and we are so very excited about it. The leather goods and accessories company was founded in 1941 in New York City and currently holds stocks at $30.58, one, which sees a flow on a constant basis. Those who invest in Coach are often quite happy with the results.
Now, we are wondering where we will be storing all these lovelies, particularly the brown leather pieces with a little Snoopy emblem in front, the patched up messenger bags looking too adorable to pass up in black. Looks like Charlie Brown will be our new Christmas treat as we wait impatiently to get our hands on the adorable little dog’s own stylish handbags.

CELEBRITIES
Cannes is still happening (more on that soon), but most of the celebs whose handbag choices we're looking at today have choses to keep their very famous feet solidly on US shores. Of course, some of them have young babies at home, or very important lunch dates to keep, or they just now live in fear of fielding questions about whether or not they are indeed Becky With The Good Hair. All excellent reasons to stay home and not mingle too closely with the international media. Celebs are mostly just living their lives this week, albeit with gorgeous bags from Chanel, Fendi, Givenchy, Céline and The Row. The lack of photos from France may disappoint, but the bag picks certainly do not.
ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO
CHLOÉ DREW BAG
Alessandra Ambrosio was recently spotted running errands in LA with a mixed suede and leather Chloé Drew Bag. High-waisted jeans are currently trending with models and actresses, but it's almost June. So where are all the short shorts?

CHRISSY TEIGEN
THE ROW CLASSIC 5 TOTE
Here they are! Heavily distressed short shorts spotted on one Chrissy Teigen, seen here taking a walk with her The Row Classic 5 Tote, husband John Legend and baby Luna, who just turned one month old! Chrissy is quite partial to bags by The Row and short shorts. Did I mention she had a baby just over a month ago?

KERRY WASHINGTON
GOYARD ST. LOUIS TOTE
Kerry Washington carried this attractive red Goyard bag to a recent appearance on Kimmel. You can't really tell here, but Kerry is currently expecting her second baby with husband Nnamdi Asomugha.

KYLIE JENNER
GIVENCHY MINI PANDORA BOX BAG
Here's Kylie Jenner, leaving the The Nice Guy with a lovely little Givenchy mini on her arm. This is, without a doubt, the most sophisticated oversized sweatshirt I have ever seen in my life.

LILY-ROSE DEPP
CHANEL BACKPACK
Lily-Rose Depp looks like she's trying to tell us something at LAX. (Is this an intentionally offensive gesture? And if so, which country is it most offensive in?) She's carrying a gorgeous Chanel tweed backpack. Why have I been forced to withstand so many different, inferior variations of the Chanel backpack? It was clearly always meant to be done in tweed.

PARIS HILTON
YVES SAINT LAURENT MUSE BAG
No, this is not a #TBT, it's Paris Hilton arriving at the Nice Airport in the year of our Lord 2016, carrying a Yves Saint Laurent bag that's probably 10 years old. Her entire look is very vintage Paris Hilton.

RITA ORA
FENDI MINI BY THE WAY BAG
Here's Rita Ora, looking notably wary of paparazzi attention while out to lunch with friends in LA. Don't worry Rita, we just want a better look at your Fendi accessories.

SHONDA RHIMES
CÉLINE RING BAG
Recently, our readers requested that we include more successful business women in these roundups, instead of our usual cache of supermodels and actresses. Well, our photo service does occasionally oblige. Here's Shonda Rhimes, creator of all your favorite ABC drama-fests, heading into an appearance onKimmel with a bright red Céline Ring Bag.

We featured this bag not too long ago and Erika just bought one in white at the Chanel boutique. The bag is exactly how she described it: ‘Exquisite!’.
As you can see, this bag is a gorgeous piece. It’s a mix of the brand’s most classic elements that you will love. The CC closure is a new design, the vintage look creates the vintage touch and its refined in Chevron Quilting.
Don’t worry about the space, because it got plenty. Sling the interwoven chain strap on your shoulder. Expected price is €3250 euro, but check with the SA for detailed information.

Here’s a golden ticket to a beautiful mixed Chevron Quilted Flap Bag with a touch of vintage.
Well, if you’ve ever wanted to own a vintage Chanel bag but never dared to touch the 1980’s designs because you’re afraid they’re-beyond-our-time or you doubt whether it’s an authentic.
The Chanel Vintage Mixed Chevron Quilted Flap Bag is a new addition to this collection and it’s an one-time opportunity and it might never return.
First what you need to know is that it has a boxy look (squared) and it’s quite comparable to the medium/large or the jumbo classic flap bag. You will love the woven chain link for the shoulder carry. It’s a perfect daily use bag if you ask me!
The front features a vintage-CC closure in gold hardware. The bag is covered in mixed Chevron Quilted, which got that timeless appearance. You can literally pass this bag to your granddaughters in the future (another reason to purchase).
Well, for more details please ask your SA. Priced around €3250 euro, visit your nearest Chanel boutique.
