There's a reason Rockstuds have been able to carry the Valentino accessories line for years on end: they're great. The look perfectly balances the brand's traditional femininity with a bit of forward-thinking edge, and that's a combination that appeals to wide swaths of fashion shoppers in a variety of markets. Lately, though, I've felt a little impatient to see Valentino move on to the brand's next big idea when it comes to accessories, though, and it seems as though the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri, half of the Valentino's longtime design duo, for Dior has freed Pierpaolo Piccioli to advance the narrative.
For Valentino's Fall 2017 runway bags, the designs were almost entirely fresh. There was a Rockstud here or there, and the signature motif appeared subtly in locks on the new designs, but brand new structured flap bags and saddle bags joined the day satchel we first spotted in Valentino's Pre-Fall 2017 collection. The brand's feminine detailing and sumptuous materials were all present, but the overall feel was a decided step forward into the next era of Valentino.

Introducing the Valentino Spring/Summer Runway Bag Collection. Valentino’s latest collection is greatly inspired by African culture. Seen on the runway are handbags that were hand-painted by artisans and features the Maasai pattern, which was also seen on the beading, this includes the classic Lock Flap and B-Rockstud Bags.
Mini tribal masks were used as embellishments on different flap bags this season. New flaps were introduced which features a large buckle closure, and another miniature size with chain shoulder straps.
The Rockstud Tote and My Rockstud Top Handle are also part of the collection in intricate embossed patterns, embroideries and embellishments. Some of the bags’ straps and handles are presented in multicolor beading and animal prints.

Here’s something exceptional but surprising. Valentino has made many different styles of handbags in the recent years and they’re rotating collections with speed. Most of them are inspirational and blended with iconic bags like the Lock Bag.
But anyways, here are two more styles that we thought you should consider for the upcoming season. They’re small shoulder bag in tribal styles like a Wallet On Chain but bigger.
These bags are made from durable leather but the front design is very notable. It goes well with dresses and slippers, perfect right? Priced around €2200 euro.

Another bag that you should consider is the brown Valentino Tribal Mask Shoulder Bag. It comes with a long strap for shoulder carry. Priced around €2950 euro.

And here is another one inspired by Spiderman. We can all remember the movie Spiderman, but do you think its fashionable and practical to wear this?

When you think of brands that were in need of a shakeup, Valentino doesn't leap to mind. The Rome-based design house is in the middle of its most profitable and popular period ever, with its studded accessories and diaphanous dresses forming a solid aesthetic foundation for a broad fanbase. Until recently, that saw no signs of changing, but then Dior poached Maria Grazia Chiuri, half of the brand's head design duo, and there were suddenly a few question marks.
The brand's Spring 2017 runway show, the solo debut of Pierpaolo Piccioli, should put any and all of those questions to rest. Not only was the collection true to many of the traditions he had started with Chiuri during their tandem leadership at Valentino, but much of the clothing felt less formal. There were still gowns, of course, but this was Valentino you could wear in the daytime, too.
Naturally, we're most concerned with the bags, and although there were still studs to be found on the runway, the bags felt simpler and less reliant on the brand's previous smash hits. If Chiuri and Poccioli's parting of ways is what delivers us to Valentino's next era and the next era looks like this, then I hope she's very happy at Dior.
