Chanel’s debuts a spectacular in-house watch movement for women: the Calibre 2

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

Chanel is quickly developing their portfolio of watches and their dazzling new Première Camélia Skeleton Watch marks another feather in the maison’s cap. This is the first watch for ladies from Chanel to feature an in-house movement and the movement is being called Calibre 2. The first in-house movement from Chanel (Calibre 1) debuted in their Monsieur de Chanel watch last year.

Chanel’s Première is not a new watch at all; this model was originally launched 30 years ago. The new version features the same octagonal shape that’s inspired by the brand’s own No. 5 perfume bottle. The watch is available in a version with 104 brilliant-cut diamonds and 4 baguette-cut diamonds and another with 42 baguette-cut diamonds and 52 brilliant-cut diamonds. Chanel’s simple and classic aesthetic is maintained by the black satin strap and the white gold double folding buckle set with 30 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Chanel’s skeletonized Calibre 2 is a work of art in itself. The movement has been designed in a way that its bridges form the house’s emblem, the Camelia flower. After the idea was conceptualized, it was the technical team’s responsibility to bring the vision to life, which they have certainly done. The movement is manually wound with a 48 hour power reserve. Chanel has gone one step further with the baguette diamond set watch by setting the movement with diamonds too. The brilliant cut diamond case version has no diamonds on the movement, but a bit of dazzle on the watch hands instead. The baguette version will also be available with a full pave bracelet.

According to Hodinkee, prices start at €130,000 (approx. $138,000) for the brilliant-set model while the baguette-set model is to be priced at €190,000 (approx. $200,000) on a satin strap and €260,000 (approximately $276,000) with the full pavé bracelet.

Chanel's First Dedicated Men's Watch

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

In a surprise, the French fashion house just announced their first ever watch for men, appropriately called "The Monsieur". In another surprise, the watch is a pretty impressive piece of machinery — this is no fashion watch made by another company with Chanel's name slapped on. The new model was revealed at Baselworld, the world's largest watch industry fair held in Basel, Switzerland, in March. It's the first Chanel watch to be entirely Swiss-made. It will be crafted at the company's factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The watch also houses the company's first in-house movement —made and developed entirely by Chanel — called the Calibre 1. The watch contains an atypical design, with two main complications: a jumping hour and a retrograde minute. The jumping hour is the box below the dials that displays the hour as a numeral, which many might mistake as the date. It changes suddenly when the hour changes. Chanel told The New York Times it chose this complication to mimic the importance of other numbers in the company's history, like the famous No. 5 perfume. The retrograde minute refers to the half circle near the top of the watch, which ticks to the right as the minutes pass by. When the hour changes, the hand sweeps to the left again to restart the 60-minute cycle. chanel watch These unique complications took five years for Chanel to develop, enlisting help from eight different watchmakers and the expertise of Swiss watchmaking powerhouse Romain Gauthier, which Chanel privately acquired a stake, according to the Times. The run will be limited to 150 white gold units retailing for $36,000 and 150 beige gold units retailing for $34,500. They'll both be available in June. Chanel-The-Monsieur-Watch In the past years, Chanel has conquered the hearts of many women who loves high fashion. From handbags, accessories and even shoes. They transformed the idea of backpacks, which were considered as dull and inconvenient. Backpacks are not hot ladies. And what the luggage and trolleys? Have you spotted the Spring Summer 2016 Collection? It’s seems like Chanel is determined to conquer that market too. With all the innovation and successes so far, perhaps it’s now the right time to punch some Chanel into the hearts of men. The French fashion house has introduced the first watch for men, it’s called ‘The Monsieur’. And while Chanel is not yet very famous in the field of watches, they did introduce many variations in the past years. For example, the Mademoiselle Prive Watch was undeniable gorgeous, but was retailing for around $95000 USD. The Monsieur Watch by Chanel is not only stunning but surprisingly it’s also an impressive machinery. More over, it’s the first Chanel watch to be entirely Swiss made, to be exact, the factory is located at La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. About the features, the watch includes an atypical design with a jumping hour and a retrograde minute. The jumping hour is the squared box below the dails, which can be mistaken as date. The retrograde minute is the half circle close to the top of the watch. There will only be limited of this watch available – 150 pieces in white gold and pricing at $36000 USD, and 150 beige gold and priced at $345000 USD. For those that are interested, they will be available in June. Chanel-The-Monsieur-Watch-2 Chanel-The-Monsieur-Watch-3 This is an unexpected but very impressive announcement from a truly iconic brand in the fashion world – Chanel – and they unveiled a brand new, men's dedicated wristwatch called the Monsieur. Oh, and it's damn impressive. It's a jumping hour, retrograde with three-day power reserve, a great profile and stunning view from the back. Let's get into the Monsieur de Chanel now.
Monsieur de chanel watch
The Monsieur de Chanel is Chanel's first dedicated men's watch and certainly first with complication, and what makes that even more important is that it was designed and built completely in-house. And what makes that even more special is that the watch looks fantastic on both the front and the back, and wears like a dream. So what is it? Obviously this is a jumping hour watch, with a pronounced hour display at 6 o'clock. The font used here was indeed designed for this watch – just as the font seen on the Slim d'Hermes was designed for that watch(sidebar: is designing a new font for every new watch now a thing? bc if so, things just got intense).
Directly above the hour at 6 o'clock, you have a lovely running seconds, and above that, you have a retrograde minute display. What is interesting about this retrograde compared to almost all others is that it A) jumps more than 180°, and B) can actually be set going backwards. Both of these are small things, but still show the technical approach that was taken to this watch. Now about that – the Monsieur de Chanel was designed and manufactured completely in-house. Think about that. This jumping hour was made by your wife/girlfriend/sister/SO's favorite, favorite fashion house. It took them five years, and they've gone ahead and brought in some of the best and brightest to make this happen, but it shows how committed they are to fine watchmaking. Oh, and when you turn it over? This.
Caliber 1 from Chanel
Look at that thing. And lest we forget, this bad boy says "Chanel" on the other side. The entirity of Caliber 1, as it's being called, is black anthracite, and the look is downright mean. We have a beautiful central, circular bridge and star-shaped balance wheel. What is interesting to note, and something I had never heard until today, is that Chanel became an investor in high-end independent watchmaker and protegé of no one short of Philippe Dufour, Mr. Romain Gauthier in 2011, and some of the wheels you see here were in fact produced by him, though to Chanel's specifications. The rear of this watch is simply stunning, and frankly looks and feels well above its weight class. Here is the official pic:
What else do you need to know about the Monsieur de Chanel? It has a three-day power reserve from one barrel. It wears wonderfully at 40 mm wide by 10 mm thick, and it will be a limited edition of 300 pieces, 150 in both white gold and beige gold, at $36,000 and $34,500 respectively. The watch should be available as of this June, and you can sign up to receive more information

Think Tiffany & Co. and their shade of signature robin egg blue comes to mind, on a box that’s then lovingly swathed with a lush white ribbon. And come Christmas Day, I can confidently say most (if not all) women wouldn’t mind finding one or more of these boxes under the tree.

And because Tiffany & Co. has a selection of fancy and fine jewellery so immense that it would take me at least a full year to list every single item here, I’ve gone ahead and picked my personal favourites to make your decision-making process that much easier. See something you like? Send a link to your menfolk and they’ll probably get the hint. They’d better anyway, or else…

Disney Tsum Tsum X SK Jewellery Collection

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

IMAGE: SK JEWELLERY

I can think of at least 3 reasons why you should read this post. Firstly, it’s Disney Tsum Tsum! Secondly it’s Disney Tsum Tsum! And lastly, it’s Disney Tsum Tsum! Jokes aside though, with the way the world is now, it’s probably smartest to start putting your money into gold, and because not everyone here (me included) can actually afford gold ingots, this would be a start. And since they all come designed with the cutest Tsum Tsum characters as well, this is perhaps the best of both worlds. One of actually buying something that will hold its value in the long run, and adorable AF. Really.

From 999 pure gold charms in the shape of Mickey Mouse and Winnie The Pooh you can ‘stack’ onto the bracelet that’s also available via SK Jewellery, they also have cute Tsum Tsum characters in the form of pendants as well as gold coins (choose from 0.2 or 0.5 gm options) that come printed with cute mugshots of Elsa, Stitch, even Marie from the animated classic Aristocats.

IMAGE: SK JEWELLERY

For those who want to ‘splurge’, there are even gold bars that come in either 2 gm or 1 gm options. Well, not exactly gold bars, more sheets of gold than anything else, but you know what I mean. While there’s no word yet on their exact prices, you can now check out the full collection at SK Jewellery showrooms across Singapore. Another Christmas gifting option to put onto your shopping list perhaps?
